Painted after a visit to a hilltop cemetery in Rabat, where crown daisies grow wild through the gravestones under a turquoise sky. I felt unexpectedly happy there and could imagine it as my own final resting place. It felt inviting. This painting is about finding joy in the places we’re taught to expect only grief, and a moment when the thought of death became less frightening.
